Incorporation Has to Mean New Taxes

Monterey Herald -- Oct. 4, 2009

We have lived in Carmel Valley for more than 20 years and there has been very little bureaucratic interference, while the county has provided good oversight. I fear that incorporation will change that. We do not need another bureaucracy to impose their restrictions and views on the valley.

The incorporation would empower another tax authority, just as our taxes are about to be increased at all levels, both state and federal, while our neighboring cities are struggling.

The statement that there will be no additional costs is a convenient fairy tale.
