Response from Candidates for CV city council -- Jake Odello

Monterey Herald -- Oct. 27, 2009

A few weeks ago The Herald endorsed the highly contested Measure G for Carmel Valley incorporation. I respect the newspaper's opinion, and I appreciate that it also endorsed two opponents of Measure G. I believe it is important to have a balance of proponents and opponents on the town council.

However, we need to have some young blood. If a town is created, it will affect future generations. We need someone who will stand up for our children and grandchildren.

I have worked for the cities of Carmel and Salinas. I gained administration skills by working in the office at Carmel High School. When I worked for the cities, I worked with top-notch officials. I gained firsthand knowledge
of what kind of people work behind the scenes of a city government. I would be an asset when it comes to hiring the real people behind the city.

The argument that only proponents will support a town successfully is just not true. If I am elected, I will put all my effort into making the town succeed. I am against incorporation, but if it passes, I will advocate for financial success by making sure the town lives within its means.
