Mission Fields Put into the Incorporation Pot?

March 3, 2004

Dear Editor:

Citizens of Mission Fields should be aware that if Carmel Valley incorporates into a city, they would likely be included. Both Monterey County Supervisor Louis Calcagno and LAFCO consultant Kathy West have warned that they do not want an island of county land at the mouth of Carmel River if a city is created. There is also talk that Carmel Meadows would be included.

Government has never been one of my favorite entities; it spends too much, controls too much and whines too much. When deficits blossom after extended spending sprees, they always warned that essential services will be slashed unless taxes are raised. Further, under a city, we would become captives of in-your-face partisan politics, bickering and back room dealings.

I hope the citizens of Mission Fields and Carmel Meadows will join the protest against this loony idea of a 14-mile long Carmel Valley City.
