Carmel Valley EIR

Monterey Herald, Oct. 29, 2005

Dear Editor:

Why are the "environmentalists" so strangely silent on the need for an environmental impact report on the Carmel Valley incorporation process? They should be calling for a full and complete report.

It's no secret the pro-incorporation people have substantial plans to change land-use policy and property rights and a host of other ideas that will forever change Carmel Valley.

The biggest change will be creation of a 44-square-mile city, the biggest in Monterey County.

This alone should trigger an absolutely mandatory full and comprehensive EIR. What could be the harm in having the information that such a report could provide? Are the proponents trying to hide something?

The cost of such a report should not be a factor considering the value of beautiful Carmel Valley and its future. Why go cheap on one of the nicest and most expensive places to live in California?
